Matthew Gonzalez to Present on Captive Insurance at LEA Spring Educational Conference
June 14, 2019Matthew Gonzalez, managing partner in the New York office of Zelle, will moderate a workshop on “Captive Insurance: Friend or Foe” at the Loss Executives Association’s 88th Spring Educational Conference. The conference will take place June 12-14, 2019 in Southampton, Bermuda.
The workshop presenters will cover best practices for, and potential pitfalls of, dealing with captive insurers. They will discuss issues facing reinsurers from the start of a claim through its conclusion, including the role of the independent adjuster and whether his/her duties are to the captive or the reinsurer(s) and how those duties impact, among other things, reporting. They will also discuss how specific provisions in the reinsurance wording impact the adjustment and payment of claims, as well as the legal ramifications (rights and/or defenses) arising out of the inclusion, or not, of cut through or claims control clauses in the reinsurance agreement. As part of this discussion, they will discuss the impact of nonconcurrencies in reinsurance wordings that could impact the application of such clauses to the broader market.
Joining Gonzalez as panelists will be Rebecca Bartoletti of Liberty Special Markets, Kevin Hutcheon of Argo Global, and Jim Podesva of York.
