Jason Reeves to Present LMA Academy Master Class on Earthquake Hazards
November 12, 2014On November 12, 2014, Jason Reeves, of Zelle Hofmann’s London office, will co-present an LMA Academy master class titled “Earthquake Hazards.” Joining Reeves for this presentation will be Bill Leith, Senior Science Advisor for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards.
Earthquakes have been responsible for some of the insurance market’s largest claims. As a CAT peril, earthquakes remain a key concern for (re)insurers. Exposure can be mitigated through effective modelling, underwriting, wording and claims handling. One of the best ways to manage earthquake risk is through an understanding of earthquake science.
Those attending the master class will gain an understanding of the work of U.S. Geological Survey and the earthquake risks faced by insurers. The following will be discussed:
- earthquake science
- well-known and little-known earthquake risks
- USGS modelling and forecasting
- fracking and attritional losses
- wording and claims issues
The goal of the LMA Academy is to raise the profile of education in the Lloyd's market. This is delivered through a series of modular programs, workshops, master classes and alumni events that support learning and career development. Additional information regarding Lloyd’s Market Association can be found on their website.
