Olugbenga Dansu
Olu specializes in high value property damage, construction and product liability claims as well as pursuing subrogated recovery actions.
He advises on all aspects of policy coverage, including potentially fraudulent claims. Olu also regularly advises on foreign claims involving disputes arising outside the jurisdiction, particularly claims on the African continent.
He has over 15 years’ experience advising insurers on claims across a range of sectors, including construction, manufacturing, processing, and retail. His key clients include Allianz Insurance, Zurich Insurance, Aspen Insurance and AXA XL.
Olu is client focused and devises solutions that are targeted in supporting clients to achieve their commercial objectives.
Representative Matters
Allianz Insurance plc v University of Exeter- advised the insurer in successfully obtaining judgment confirming that damage caused by the detonation of a WWII bomb was proximately caused by war and excluded under its property policy.
DIPT Ltd & Others v Sanglier Ltd – Acted for the claimants and their insurer in a successful subrogated recovery claim on a substantial product liability claim arising from the supply of defective adhesive to multiple trade customers.
Leeds Beckett University v Travelers Insurance Company – successfully defending the insurer in a property damage claim at the claimant’s student accommodation block, where the Court gave guidance on the correct interpretation of “accidental damage” in the context of property insurance.
Findcharm Ltd v Churchill Group Ltd – acted for the claimant in a successful recovery claim following an explosion which damaged its Michelin starred restaurant. The case resulted in the High Court stressing the importance of costs budgeting and warning parties not to treat costs budgeting as a game.
Acted for a co-defendant in settling a £multi-million claim relating to alleged negligence during the construction of a retail development in Berkshire.
