Steve Badger to Present at BRMA Education Summit
April 24, 2024Steve Badger, a partner in Zelle LLP’s Dallas, TX office, will present “Update from the Trenches – Strategies to Mitigate Fraud and Other Abuses in CAT Claims” at the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Association (BRMA) Education Summit on April 24, 2024. The two-day event, held at Munich Re in Princeton, NJ, will kick off on April 23.
Reinsurer exposure due to weather related CAT claims has increased dramatically in recent years. One reason for this increase is the growth and maturation of the “storm chaser” industry, including contractors, public adjusters, and policyholder attorneys who all make a living injecting themselves into the CAT claims process. While some in this industry are reasonable professionals who want to truly help the insured, others not so much. As a result, fraud and other abuses in the claims process have unfortunately become far too common. This session will explore the policy form changes, improved underwriting standards, and claims handling strategies that can be employed to address improper conduct, while still ensuring fair compensation for the policyholder.
