Isabella K. Stankowski-Booker
Isabella Stankowski-Booker’s practice focuses on (re)insurance coverage, complex commercial litigation and insurance defense, as well as policy drafting. In the first-party (re)insurance context, she advises on property, energy and engineering matters. In addition, Isabella consults on (re)insurance claims in the Entertainment, Media and Sports industries, where she regularly advises clients on event cancellation/nonappearance, film production, and sports personal accident issues.
Before returning to private practice in 2014, Isabella worked as In-House Counsel in the claims and wording units with one of the world’s largest reinsurance companies, both at their Munich and London offices. In that capacity, Isabella worked closely with underwriters, brokers and outside consultants on complex claims and the drafting of bespoke (re)insurance wordings, providing her with first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by clients in these key international (re)insurance markets.
Isabella is fluent in German, French and Polish.
Representative Matters
Represent insurers to analyze claims and defend litigation concerning losses attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic under commercial property policies and even cancellation policies.
Obtained favorable settlement in dispute under event cancellation policy.
Obtained summary judgment in New York State Court dismissing suit against property insurer brought by restaurant chain.
Represented builder’s-risk carrier in insurance coverage litigation involving water damage to apartment building complex in New York, and obtained summary judgment on bad faith allegations.
Represented various property carriers in coverage disputes and subsequent litigation arising out of damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.
Represented insurance market in a multimillion dollar claim under an All Risk policy arising out of alleged physical loss or damage sustained at a food processing facility when foreign materials entered the system.
Represented insurers in subrogation evaluation arising from a partial event cancellation as the result of a loss of heat.
Represented third-party insurance carriers in complex coverage dispute involving general contractor and multiple subcontractors.
Provided insurance carrier with review and analysis of event cancellation/nonappearance policy in the context of threatened government shutdown in the United States.
Assisted in defense of artist in litigation arising under manager agreement.
