Geoff R. Hafer
Geoff’s practice focuses on insurance coverage and complex commercial business litigation. He has successfully defended coverage actions for global insurance companies in state and federal courts across the country relating to property damage, construction and builder’s risk issues, business interruption, time element, and bad faith. Additionally, he serves on the firm's eDiscovery team.
Geoff has experience working on both sides of the aisle. Before joining Zelle, he represented both insurers and insureds in insurance coverage matters at all stages of litigation including jury trial. While in law school, Geoff was selected to support and mentor incoming first-year law students, teaching workshops on legal writing and research.
Representative Matters
Obtained a favorable settlement for a market of five insurance companies in a dispute with a commercial property owner alleging damage to a parking structure and bad faith in federal court in Missouri.
Provide opinions to insurers on a variety of coverage issues including faulty workmanship and settlement exclusions, ensuing loss exceptions, change of temperature exclusions, and application of sublimits.
Represent commercial property insurer in litigation in federal court in Florida concerning claims for vandalism and theft in excess of $11M.
Obtained a favorable settlement in a coverage dispute with a hotel owner alleging hurricane damage and bad faith in federal court in Georgia.
